El Refugio de Juanar is 10 kms from Ojen and at an altitude of 780m above sea level, with a *** category, it was built on the foundations of the old Juanar Palace property of the Marquees de Larios, at the beginning of the century, as a hunting lodge where on one occasion King Alfonso XIII was invited to hunt.
The Refugio de Juanar offers the visitor the opportunity to enjoy the mountain life, without having to go without the commodities of a quality hotel. It has a capacity for 56 guests, comfortable lounges and terraces, a restaurant with an excellent kitchen, and perfectly equipped rooms. There are 20 double rooms, and 4 suites all with bathroom, direct telephone, satellite television. Some have a fireplace and Jacuzzi. There are a number of rooms, equipped with audiovisual apparatus, for congresses of up to 60 people. The wine cellar has more than 70000 bottles of Rioja, Ribera del Duero wine etc.
Many illustrious visitors have visited el Refugio de Juanar, in search of the tranquillity that can be found in these privileged surroundings. Amongst these was the General Charles de Gaulle who stayed in room 3 where finished writing his memoirs in 1970.
